I did not read the three stories in the back, but here’s my review of the Picture of Dorian Gray:It was a difficult read。 I’m not someone with a low reading level, but the long repetitive dialogue was monotonous and difficult to actually read。 My eyes seemed to just want to skip over it。As for the plot, what a wonderful plot it was。 Absolutely fabulous。 Too bad the writing was dreadful in some circumstances。

The premise of the book is very intriguing and the author writes extremely beautiful and quotable passages。 Although I felt that the plot moved too slow for my liking and the character Henry annoyed me lol。

Great quotes, not a complete novel。

As a classic I did not expect myself to rate it a five star already as they are much harder for me to read。 However, The Picture of Dorian Gray is a beautifully written novel which makes you think and rethink about vanity, your fears and the lengths you would go to in order not to be tarnished by your actions。 I believe everyone should read this book at their own pace, take it, read it, digest it。 The end and how the whole story cycles back to its mere beginnings was beautifully done and I can't As a classic I did not expect myself to rate it a five star already as they are much harder for me to read。 However, The Picture of Dorian Gray is a beautifully written novel which makes you think and rethink about vanity, your fears and the lengths you would go to in order not to be tarnished by your actions。 I believe everyone should read this book at their own pace, take it, read it, digest it。 The end and how the whole story cycles back to its mere beginnings was beautifully done and I can't help but hurt for Dorian Gray。 At times, I was confused as to what I was writing as there is alot of description and time setting。 It was also the second time I tried to finish the book yet I still still very much enjoyed it although I could not read it at my usual speed。 。。。more

A classic novel ahead of its time。 I wish I would have found the uncensored version first time see what was edited out that was deemed too inappropriate for Victorian times。

The Picture of Dorian Gray:Story is a 3。5 out of 5 for me, no one is remotely likeable in the story, but the message it’s trying to send is very important and impactful。 Also, the writing is just out of this world, 10 out 5, the opening is OP af

so so good !!!! the first story, the titular narrative, the picture of dorian gray was very enticing to say the least, i was very surprised when i found out that it was written in the late 1800s because most of the conversations and ‘theories’ could very much be applied today。 overall, it was an easy read and i enjoyed it very much。the second story, the happy prince, was also very very good, a very on point take on marxism and naivetéthird story, the birthday of the infanta is equally as fascina so so good !!!! the first story, the titular narrative, the picture of dorian gray was very enticing to say the least, i was very surprised when i found out that it was written in the late 1800s because most of the conversations and ‘theories’ could very much be applied today。 overall, it was an easy read and i enjoyed it very much。the second story, the happy prince, was also very very good, a very on point take on marxism and naivetéthird story, the birthday of the infanta is equally as fascinating, i think it did the concept of expectations and blindness justicethe last, lord arthur savile’s crime, tells a story about destiny and how a man clearly is capable of anything just to get what he wantsoscar wilde is magnificent !! 。。。more

I am mesmerized at, how a fiction can be such heavy read。 Plot is wonderful。 More than that, the ways art is used in the story, the ways in which art has impacted so many lives, is praiseworthy。Book demands attention。 Slower we read, more enjoyable it becomes。The depth of art, of human emotions, of influence, of manipulation, is a lot。 And, the impact of all of it is vast, sometimes destructing。 It seems like a Psychology reading。 Though it is a fiction but Oscar Wilde has made us believe it to I am mesmerized at, how a fiction can be such heavy read。 Plot is wonderful。 More than that, the ways art is used in the story, the ways in which art has impacted so many lives, is praiseworthy。Book demands attention。 Slower we read, more enjoyable it becomes。The depth of art, of human emotions, of influence, of manipulation, is a lot。 And, the impact of all of it is vast, sometimes destructing。 It seems like a Psychology reading。 Though it is a fiction but Oscar Wilde has made us believe it to be very much real。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I have read this book for the 6th time now and all I can say is how impressed I am on how it never fails to teach me something new。 At first I didn’t like the book but Oscar wildes perspective grew on me and I can confidently say this is the best classic I have ever read in my life Form the portrait to Dorian’s death I felt every step and choice Dorian made, I learned from every comment lord Henry made and I grew to understand Basil’s obsession。 The plot twist is amazing and the character develo I have read this book for the 6th time now and all I can say is how impressed I am on how it never fails to teach me something new。 At first I didn’t like the book but Oscar wildes perspective grew on me and I can confidently say this is the best classic I have ever read in my life Form the portrait to Dorian’s death I felt every step and choice Dorian made, I learned from every comment lord Henry made and I grew to understand Basil’s obsession。 The plot twist is amazing and the character development has no comparison This book has no fear of showing the truth of what society even in the present really portraits, as lord Henry once said “the books that the world calls inmoral are books that show the world it’s own shame” , I didn’t understand that quote until I sat down and understood how the society is scared of being exposed Oscar Wilde did an awesome job creating experiences and putting morals to a test。 。。。more

Heavy yet playful prose in "opposites" like those who find ugly meaning in beautiful things。 It does go in a dark direction。 Heavy yet playful prose in "opposites" like those who find ugly meaning in beautiful things。 It does go in a dark direction。 。。。more

4。5/5Main message- - We have an image of ourselves which we try to preserve, but its is our actions that defines us。- Becoming obsessed with yourself and defining and justifying your actions with your own vanity can destroy you, and that denial of your personal cruelty will only hurt you further。

I've been putting off Oscar Wilde for a long time, but this was excellent。 I thoroughly enjoyed it。 A good insight into his thinking and thought provoking。 I've been putting off Oscar Wilde for a long time, but this was excellent。 I thoroughly enjoyed it。 A good insight into his thinking and thought provoking。 。。。more

Decided to change my rating after thinking about it moreEnjoyed it mostly but the long filler paragraphs describing jewels and embroidery were painful to read。

Yikes。 There is much cognitive load to unfold the many facets of this book。 I am not one to read much fictional or classics, but this was in a reference of another book。 I gratefully appreciated the paradox of many of the phrasing。 The author was eloquent in passages like few others I have read。 It humbles me to the real literary art of another。 And, abstractly, very abstractly, think that I agree with this arch character as a common journey for a man。 It a final break in that awareness too late Yikes。 There is much cognitive load to unfold the many facets of this book。 I am not one to read much fictional or classics, but this was in a reference of another book。 I gratefully appreciated the paradox of many of the phrasing。 The author was eloquent in passages like few others I have read。 It humbles me to the real literary art of another。 And, abstractly, very abstractly, think that I agree with this arch character as a common journey for a man。 It a final break in that awareness too late to recover the innocents lost and comfort with ones foibles。 The author had it right。 。。。more

I really loved this book。 It wasn't exactly what I expected but I was not disappointed。 Especially not by the end。 Dorian was a compelling character and it was interesting to see how Henry and Basil influenced him in their own ways。 And Sybil was a neat character too。 I also very much enjoyed the other three stories, particularly 'The Birthday of the Infanta' and its more tragic poetry。 I really loved this book。 It wasn't exactly what I expected but I was not disappointed。 Especially not by the end。 Dorian was a compelling character and it was interesting to see how Henry and Basil influenced him in their own ways。 And Sybil was a neat character too。 I also very much enjoyed the other three stories, particularly 'The Birthday of the Infanta' and its more tragic poetry。 。。。more

This book was my introduction to Oscar Wilde, and it definitely did not disappoint。 The Picture of Dorian Gray is a wonderful story。 I think the themes that were brought up in the story is still prevalent in today's day and age。 It is a shame how we view beauty and youth as a virtue and as a standard of attraction and whatnot。 This book was my introduction to Oscar Wilde, and it definitely did not disappoint。 The Picture of Dorian Gray is a wonderful story。 I think the themes that were brought up in the story is still prevalent in today's day and age。 It is a shame how we view beauty and youth as a virtue and as a standard of attraction and whatnot。 。。。more

I feel like The Picture of Dorian Gray is a book I could read in a couple of months and still be just as captivated as I was reading it for the first time。 This is a story of duality and self-destruction through and through, with every action and interaction leading to a more dangerous and unsettling one further down the line。 I felt an affinity for all the main characters, and reading their progressions was like following every one of their lives as if they were real。 As such, it's extremely ha I feel like The Picture of Dorian Gray is a book I could read in a couple of months and still be just as captivated as I was reading it for the first time。 This is a story of duality and self-destruction through and through, with every action and interaction leading to a more dangerous and unsettling one further down the line。 I felt an affinity for all the main characters, and reading their progressions was like following every one of their lives as if they were real。 As such, it's extremely hard to put the book down。 I was fully absorbed in the story all the way through, however there was one chapter in particular about midway through the novel that I could just not help be swept away by, and which shook me in a way no book for a while has。 Whilst the main attraction of this book is undoubtedly the story of Gray, the other Three Stories are definitely worth a read。 The first two (at least in the edition I read) are shorter but filled with heart and sincerity。 The third is comprised of several chapters, and was just as fascinating to read as The Picture of Dorian Gray。 It follows a somewhat similar line, but with some changes which seperate it from the main feature。I was reminded of Jekyll and Hyde in many places - both stories are gothically dark and psychologically driven featuring split personalities。 Yet Dorian Gray, for me at least, felt more grounded in reality - no potions, just a blunt descent into chaos as those around him, as well as himself, irreversibly corrupt his character。 。。。more

I loved the story and the ending was such a wonderful plot twist。 I was constantly enraged by most anything that Lord Henry said, but later I realize that this was Wilde crafting his famously poisonous personality。 The story is about naivetée, loss of innocence, youth, and the privileges of beauty。 Dorian's downward spiral and his lack of remorse are what make the book the masterpiece that it is。 Despite knowing the historical context and time period in which this book was written, I personally I loved the story and the ending was such a wonderful plot twist。 I was constantly enraged by most anything that Lord Henry said, but later I realize that this was Wilde crafting his famously poisonous personality。 The story is about naivetée, loss of innocence, youth, and the privileges of beauty。 Dorian's downward spiral and his lack of remorse are what make the book the masterpiece that it is。 Despite knowing the historical context and time period in which this book was written, I personally cannot let go of the blatantly misogynistic and sexist themes in the book; it is the only reason this book does not get 5 stars。 8。5/10 I would recommend。 。。。more
